How often do we take the word or should I say act, of kindness into consideration?
Do you wait those five extra seconds to hold the door for the person who is coming right behind you?
Do you help your little sister or brother study, or work on there homework, make sure that they read at least 20-30 min a day at home?
Do you stop the elevator for someone?
Ahh… the simple act of kindness, something so small can mean something so big to someone else.
I have a friend, that sometimes has a sh!tty attitude, usually worries only about themselves & goes about there day. (lol hey I don’t judge, to be my friend there isn’t a list of requirements, besides this person knows they‘re like this) Any who, one day my friend was job hunting, she had about eight job interviews, super tired on her last day of interviews, she was in an even more grouchier mood then usual. She was rushing to get to her car (for no apparent reason) swings open the door to a building & lets it shut, not even paying attention to the poor man behind her who had his hands full of paperwork. She seen the door shut in his face, but just turned away quickly & went about her business.
At the end of the week one of the jobs (as a matter of fact, this was the job she really wanted lol) called her back for a second interview with the general manager. She went to the second interview, thinking she had this one in the bag! She sat down for the interview, the general manager walks through the door and begins the interview. Skill wise, she was a little above average for the position. He seemed to like her, then towards the end of the interview he started asking her weird / random questions, like “do you respect your family?”, “how would you describe you’re group of friends?”, etc. One of his questions was, “Would you consider yourself to be a kind person?” She of course said “Ohhh yea! I love working with people & helping them out.” (*cough, cough* bullsh!t *cough* lol) He said “hmm.. Ok… so if you were to see a man or lady with his hands full of boxes, documents, w/e, and you both were exiting a building, you being in front of that person, would you hold the door for them & wait those extra seconds for them to walk out?”
At that moment she had a flashback…
We’ll her face turned white, then red, then she lightly laughed, so did he. He then said “Yea, I didn’t think so.” No need to say that by then the interview was over, she never got a call back after that.
To think, all she had to do was wait those extra few seconds to help someone out (her would’ve been future boss) and she would have got that job that she really wanted. You never know who’s who! People remember the little things. You should be kind to everybody, taking a few seconds out of your life to help someone out won’t harm you.
I was just randomly thinking (as I usually do, hence the title) & thought about how important it is to be kind. It really is about the simple things. The things some of us, sometimes forget about. Make kindness a deep-seated characteristic in your life, not an occasional behavior.
“A good deed is never lost. He who sows courtesy, reaps friendship; he who plants kindness, gathers love; pleasure bestowed on a grateful mind was never sterile, but generally gratitude begets reward.”
